This is another post in the Saturday Business Idea series.
I’ve been so busy with my own businesses making thousands that I’ve almost forgotten to tell you how you can make millions, as I intend to do every Saturday-ish.
Time is money, so let’s keep it short:
Pony Malta is a malt beverage: A sweet, dark, fizzy drink made from barley, hops, and water - just like beer, but without fermentation. It’s big in Colombia, so much so that it feels equivalently available in stores to giants like Coke, Pepsi, and Red Bull. You can also ask for a Pony Malta in any restaurant and get it cold and ready to pour. If you ask me: It’s delicious. It is as sweet as a Coke and has a much richer taste from its natural ingredients. Colombia’s largest brewery makes it, and it is also a popular drink for kids, as it is considered nutritious and a healthier alternative to other sugary sodas.
The twenty-year plan
You can get malt drinks like Pony Malta in quite a few countries: In the US there is a decent availability of the Puerto Rican Malta Goya, and in Europe one somewhat established variant is Vita Malt from Denmark. Nevertheless, these are fringe products at best in these markets, barely available for everyday consumption.
The way to establish your malt drink empire and make millions is the following:
You’ll need some starting capital for this one… So make a business plan with a cute story. 🥱 ChatGPT it by all means: If you pull this off right, you’ll make your investors great returns anyway.
Start a brand (maybe Numi-Malt?) and approach your local breweries asking them to contract-brew the malt drink for you. They should follow strict specifications, and sign that they won’t compete with you (easier now that no one cares about the drink). You’ll be a private-label customer of the brewery.
Market it to kids! Spread it in schools, get nutritionists to recommend it as a healthier Coca-Cola alternative, whatever it takes. These malt drinks are an acquired taste: People who had them as children are much more likely to enjoy them later in life.
Watch the children grow up and your brand with them. Other malt drinks have existed as a niche product… Yours is a mainstream soda now. Twenty years later.
Don’t thank me, just enjoy your yacht and be sure to undermine any remnants of national authority still left over in 20 years.
